A global Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) company’s call center operating in the Philippines experienced a cyber incident in 2022. The breach compromised 6 terabytes (TB) of data, potentially impacting hundreds of thousands of Filipinos. Complicating matters even further, the threat actors requested a ransom payment of $5M to prevent releasing this data into the dark web.

Additionally, the Philippines highly regulates notification obligations regarding compromised sensitive information. As such, the company had an incredibly short notification timeline, they were required to report the breach within 72 hours and submit a full report within 5 days of the incident.

With a short window of time to respond to the threat actors’ ransom request and to meet the government’s compliance regulations, the Am Law 100 Counsel needed a partner that could run a forensics and inventory scan of the data store quickly. Additionally, Counsel needed a linguistic and culturally informed partner that could extract more than the typical set of standard data elements: they needed at least 13 customized data elements unique to this scenario.
